Roots of Impact GmbH as well as potential successor organizations hosting the Social Finance Academy (collectively referred to as “Roots of Impact” herein) will treat personal data with the utmost care and strictly follow the latest data protection laws defined for Germany.
I. Data Usage and Protection
The Social Finance Academy will request, store and use certain personal data for purposes of (1) user registration and navigation within the LMS platform, (2) content publication on the platform itself, (3) information to users about content news and special offers, and (4) neutralized statistical information for purposes of social finance market research. These personal data will not be disclosed to any parties outside Roots of Impact without the user’s explicit written consent, except to public authorities if mandatory and required by German law.
In specific, data under item (1) will be the user’s first and last name, email address and platform password. Relevant data under item (2) are log files, cookies and web analytic tools (see separate section II. “Log Files, Cookies and Web Analytics” below). In addition, Roots of Impact may use data that users provide voluntarily under item (2) when filling out their LMS platform profiles or utilizing content items (e.g. entering courses, forums and using check tools). These data can be details about their educational backgrounds, personal comments, questions and opinions, proprietary texts and publications, or contact details and similar personal information. By providing these data, the user also consents to Roots of Impact processing this information for purposes of tracking the user’s learning progress achieved through the content provided by the LMS.
The purpose of storing and processing existing data is to allow for (a) a customized and user-friendly platform navigation, (b) information to users about further offerings to enhance their learning, and (c) ongoing improvement of the Academy’s content provision. An exchange of experiences among users, the buildup of an effective network and learning community as well as a targeted navigation across the entire content is at the core of the Social Finance Academy’s mission. Regarding item (3) above, Roots of Impact may therefore communicate with registered users by email to inform them about additional available or upcoming content that may fit their specific profile and learning needs. However, in no case will the user’s email address become visible to other users or to parties outside the platform. Once a user decides to unregister from the Social Finance Academy, his or her data will be made anonymous or pseudo-anonymous. With respect to item (4), Roots of Impact may use personal data for scientific research purposes, yet only in a neutralized form. This is to reflect general statistics and overall impact results achieved by the Social Finance Academy’s user community.
